Conference

Since the mid-1990s, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has continued to dictate the political agenda and has all but eclipsed the Congress Party as the dominant political force in India.

The conference will examine the rise of the BJP, how it has adapted itself to the realities of governance, and the possible implications of it coming to power in its own right.  By focusing on some broad themes, the conference will consider the extent to which the BJP and its non-party affiliates have redefined the Indian polity, economy and culture.
